Grade 5 vs Grade 23 titanium
Ti-6Al-4V · Ti-6Al-4V ELI
Grade 23 (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) has lower oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and iron limits than Grade 5, which improves ductility and fracture toughness. Its ASTM B348 minimums are slightly lower: 828 MPa (120 ksi) tensile against 895 MPa (130 ksi).
Mechanical properties
Specified minimums for annealed material at room temperature.
| Property | Grade 5 | Grade 23 | Difference |

Sources and notes
- Values checked against ASTM B348-19 (bar), ASTM B265-11 (sheet and plate) and ASTM B338-10e1 (tube).
- Minimum properties per ASTM B348 apply to bar up to 3 in (76 mm); larger sections are by agreement.
- Minimum properties per ASTM B265 apply to plate up to 1 in (25 mm) thick; thicker plate is by agreement.
- Density is a typical value, not a specification requirement.
