Frequently Asked Questions
What titanium grade is used for orthopedic implants?
Ti-6Al-4V ELI (Grade 23) is used for orthopedic implants: its lower oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and iron limits improve ductility and fracture toughness. The surgical-implant specification for this alloy is ASTM F136; commercially pure implant titanium is covered by ASTM F67.
