Grade 23 titanium (Ti-6Al-4V ELI) is the extra-low interstitial version of Grade 5: lower oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and iron limits improve ductility and fracture toughness. It is used for orthopedic implants and fracture-critical aerospace parts.

Mechanical properties
Specified minimum properties for annealed Grade 23 Titanium at room temperature. Source: ASTM B348 (bar), ASTM B265 (sheet/plate). The values for your material are on its mill test certificate.
| Property | Value |
|---|---|
| Ultimate Tensile Strength (min) | 828 MPa (120 ksi) |
| Yield Strength (0.2%, min) | 759 MPa (110 ksi) |
| Elongation (min) | 10 % |
- Minimum properties per ASTM B348 apply to bar up to 3 in (76 mm); larger sections are by agreement.
- Minimum properties per ASTM B265 apply to plate up to 1 in (25 mm) thick; thicker plate is by agreement.
- Density is a typical value, not a specification requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between Grade 5 and Grade 23 titanium?
Grade 23 is the ELI (extra-low interstitial) version of Grade 5, with lower oxygen, nitrogen, carbon and iron limits. That improves ductility and fracture toughness; the ASTM B348 minimum tensile strength is 828 MPa (120 ksi) against 895 MPa (130 ksi) for Grade 5.
Is ASTM B348 Grade 23 the same as ASTM F136?
No. ASTM F136 is the surgical-implant specification for Ti-6Al-4V ELI (UNS R56401), with different minimums. The values on this page are for ASTM B348 / B265 Grade 23 (UNS R56407).
